How does Oxford University choose a college?
Oxford's colleges are more like independent small universities, with higher autonomy. They are responsible for their own finances, manage students' food, clothing, housing and transportation, and cooperate with various professional teaching departments in the university to manage students' teaching.

When enrolling undergraduate students, the college enrolls students independently and interviews. Therefore, students have more ownership and identity with their colleges than universities. Besides, you have a tutor not only in the department, but also in the college. Generally, everyone will live in the college, so the college provides an important place to live, study and socialize. When applying for a job, if you are an Oxford graduate, you need to further inform your college, which shows that the college plays a considerable role. This is different from ordinary universities.

Therefore, the organizational structure of Oxford University has two dimensions:

1, academic level: 59 departments; ;

2. Administrative level: divided into 38 colleges.

In Oxford University, there are actually only 30 undergraduate colleges, and 9 colleges only accept masters and doctors. There are also seven PPH (permanent private schools), which generally study theology.

Each faculty member and student belongs to a department and a college in parallel. Its biggest feature is decentralization. Each college is composed of a dean and a professor (called an academician), who is responsible for managing the teaching, housing, internal affairs and finance of the college. Universities are only responsible for the integration of colleges, and the president of Oxford University mainly does things like attending ceremonies, much like the Federation of state power. Therefore, it is also called "Independent and Federal College".

Although the central government of the school still has a certain degree of control over the college, the college enjoys a high degree of autonomy in curriculum arrangement and other services, and the college admission steps occupy an important part of the school admission process. Most of the college's self-raised funds provide accommodation, catering and competition venues, while colleges that recruit undergraduates will provide undergraduate teaching services. The degree obtained by students is jointly awarded by the college and the school center. This system is very common in large comprehensive universities. At present, there are only three independent federal universities in Britain: Oxford University, Cambridge University and Durham University, which is also the oldest university in Britain. The system of the University of Toronto in Canada follows the model of Oxford University, and the University of Otag in New Zealand is also an independent college federal university.

Oxford is a big school with more than 20,000 students, while each college has only a few hundred students. Although they come from different majors, on the whole, a college also has its own characteristics. Some emphasize learning, some attach importance to application, some are positive, and some are quiet. Students can choose a college that suits their temperament, and it is often easier to establish feelings with the college.
