Nanjing Art College (Shangmei College) was the first to offer this major, and it is also the best in China at present. The two experts hired by the Institute are members of the National Cultural Relics Appraisal Committee, among which Lu Li has been engaged in calligraphy and painting appraisal for 24 years, and James Zhu is currently a professional tutor of ancient ceramics and ancient jade appraisal in National Cultural Heritage Administration, focusing on teaching cultural relics appreciation and restoration courses for students of the Department of Cultural Relics Appreciation and Restoration of Nanyi Shangmei College.
The Department of Archaeology and Cultural Studies of the School of History of Nankai University has four directions, namely, 0 1 China Ancient Material and Culture Research (Pre-Qin, Han, Tang, Song, Ming and Qing Dynasties) 02 Ancient Cultural Relics and Ancient Characters Research and Appraisal 03 Theoretical Museology 04 Historical and Cultural Heritage Research. Among them, the 02 direction in the enrollment catalogue is the research and appraisal of ancient cultural relics and ancient Chinese characters, including ceramics, bronzes, jade articles, calligraphy and painting, ancient Chinese characters and so on. The academic system is three years.
Postgraduates take the cultural relics examination. The initial subjects are politics, foreign languages, China Cultural Relics Museum and the history of material culture (general history of China, ancient history of China), ancient material culture of China, and the guide to cultural relics identification.
Cultural relics appreciation and archaeology are separated. Among them, the prospect of cultural relics appraisal is the best, and the demand for talents is in short supply, which is related to the increasing number of people who collect them now, and the people who know cultural relics appraisal are scarce.
National University of Singapore has graduate students in cultural relics protection and appraisal abroad.
Other universities also have graduate students majoring in cultural relics, but most of them are different from cultural relics appraisal. For example, graduate students from Peking University, China Academy of Social Sciences, Northwest University and Shaanxi Normal University mainly study the science and technology of cultural relics protection, Fudan University focuses on cultural relics and museum science, and Shandong University focuses on cultivating students of archaeology and museum science.
Part-time, China Academy of Social Sciences holds postgraduate courses in archaeology and cultural relics appraisal, and Peking University holds postgraduate courses in cultural relics appraisal.
