Hunan University of Science and Technology is a book. Hunan University of Science and Technology was formed by the merger of Xiangtan Institute of Technology and Xiangtan Normal College, the second undergraduate normal university in Hunan Province, in 2003. Its school history can be traced back to Xiangbei Institute of Architecture, which was founded in 1949. Xiangtan Institute of Technology was founded in 1978, formerly known as Xiangtan Coal Institute, and is an undergraduate college directly under the former Ministry of Coal Industry. Hunan University of Science and Technology, located in Xiangtan City, is a university supported by the Hunan Provincial People's Government, the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, the former State Administration of Work Safety, and the national "Basic Capacity Building Project for Colleges and Universities in the Midwest".

The school is an "excellent" university evaluated by the Ministry of Education, an "excellent engineer education and training program" university of the Ministry of Education, the first batch of universities with typical experience in innovation and entrepreneurship in China, and a typical university with typical experience in graduate employment in China. The first batch of undergraduate enrollment covers the whole country. Xiaoxiang College (independent college) has 29,872 full-time undergraduates, 4,942 graduate students and 5,782 students. There are 7 national teaching teams 1 team and 7 provincial teaching teams. There are 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 national virtual simulation experimental teaching centers 1, off-campus practice teaching bases of "Excellence Plan" of the Ministry of Education 1, 79 provincial practice teaching platforms, 2 national new engineering research and practice projects 1, 2 national new liberal arts research and practice projects, 3 national first-class courses and 67 provincial first-class courses. Since the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan", it has won 2 national teaching achievement awards and 38 provincial and ministerial teaching achievement awards.

The school has 38 national, provincial and ministerial scientific and technological innovation platforms and 2 provincial social science research bases/kloc-0. Since the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan", it has undertaken nearly 800 national planned projects such as "863 Plan" project, "973 Plan" project, national key R&D project, national natural science foundation project and national social science foundation project.

Won national and provincial scientific research achievement awards 155, national authorized patents and software copyrights 25 17, and promoted new technologies 136. Journal of Hunan University of Science and Technology (Natural Science Edition) and Journal of Hunan University of Science and Technology (Social Science Edition) have been selected as the main contents of Chinese core journals, while Journal of Hunan University of Science and Technology (Social Science Edition) has been selected as the source journal of CSSCI, the national core journal of humanities and social sciences, the top 100 journals of social sciences in universities and well-known journals of social sciences in universities. The "Manatee II" deep-hole pressure-keeping coring rig system developed by the school has set a new record for the drilling depth of deep-sea rigs in the world, marking that China has reached the world leading level in this technical field.
