The School of Foreign Languages, formerly known as the English Department of Soochow University, was founded in 1940. 1952 was renamed Foreign Languages Department of Jiangsu Normal University, and Russian major was added in the same year. 1982 added a Japanese major (the school was renamed Suzhou university), and 1995 was officially named Foreign Languages College. 20 10 College added French, Korean, German and Spanish majors, and then added translation majors. After 100 years' historical inheritance and 70 years' running of specialized departments, the college has developed into a second-class comprehensive university with large scale, many language specialties, equal emphasis on teaching and scientific research and great academic influence, and has trained a large number of outstanding high-end foreign language talents for the country.
