Why is Tongji University called Huang Du Institute of Technology?
Because:

Jiading College of Tongji University is different from Huang Du University of Technology, because Tongji University moved most of its engineering courses to Jiading Campus (Huang Du District), and the distance between the two places is 30 kilometers, which makes it inconvenient to handle affairs.

The school began in 1907 with the support of Chinese and German governments and all walks of life, and was founded by German doctor erich Baolong. 1908, Devon medical college was renamed Tongji Devon medical college. 19 12, together with the newly established Tongji German Medical College, is called Tongji German Medical College. 19 17 was taken over by China people and renamed as Tongji Medical College, a private Tongji Medical College. 1923 was named Tongji University, and 1927 became a national university. 1937 After the full-scale outbreak of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Tongji University moved to Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Guangxi and Yunnan for six times, and 1940 moved to Lizhuang Ancient Town, Yibin, Sichuan. 1946 after moving back to Shanghai, it developed into a comprehensive university famous for its five colleges of science, engineering, medicine, literature and law.
