On April 29, 2000, Central South University was formed by the merger of Central South University of Technology, Hunan Medical University and Changsha Railway Institute in the reform of national institutions of higher learning. It can be traced back to Hunan Higher Institute of Technology and Xiangya Medical College founded by 1903 and 19 14 respectively.
Central South University of Technology, formerly known as Central South Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (1952), enjoys a world-renowned mining discipline and is known as "Mining and Metallurgy Huangpu" in China. Changsha Railway Institute, formerly known as Central South Institute of Architecture and Engineering (1953), enjoys the reputation of "Troika" in domestic civil engineering.
Hunan Medical University, formerly known as Xiangya Medical College (19 14), is the earliest institution of higher learning of western medicine in China, enjoying the reputation of "Xiangya in the south and Concord in the north".
Liang Huankui, a modern industrialist in Hunan Province, believes that mineral resources are the source of the country's blood and the road is the backbone of the country. If these two important tasks are not grasped, the country will be in trouble. But national sovereignty was usurped, wealth was controlled, and domestic talents were pushed to the peak of disaster.
1903 10, Liang Huankui borrowed 16000 yuan from Hunan Mining Bureau to establish "Hunan Higher Industrial School" and served as the school supervisor (i.e. the principal). The school has initially set up mining and railway construction. After more than a century of development and evolution, it has become one of the engineering sources of Central South University.
