Wuhan textile University was founded in 1958, formerly known as wuhan textile Institute of Technology, which was an industrial college under the former China Textile Industry Department. 1998 was transferred to Hubei province by China national education management system.

1999 was renamed Wuhan institute of science and technology; In 2002, Hubei Foreign Trade School merged; 20 10 was renamed wuhan textile university; Hubei University of Finance and Economics 20 1 1 merged into wuhan textile University.
