Former residence of Chen Wangdao

No.650 Guoshun Road, the Ninth Dormitory, also known as Jiuyuan, Chen Wangdao's former residence is located in the east corner of the Ninth Dormitory, with the gate facing Guo Fu Road, and the house number is 5 1. In the 1930s and 1940s, it was a private garden of capitalists, surrounded by fences and surrounded by adjacent farmland. In the early 1950s, Mao Zedong appointed Chen Wangdao as the first president of Fudan University after the founding of New China. At this time, Fudan is at a critical moment of development. In order to implement the intellectual policy at that time and meet the needs of receiving foreign guests, the school bought No.51Guo Fu Road according to the arrangement of the city, and invited Chen Wangdao to stay after the renovation.

At that time, the staff, students and family members around the old headmaster all respected him as "seeking the old" Wang Lao's son, Chen Zhenxin, is a teacher in Fudan Electronic Engineering Department. He recalled to the Fudan young reporter that this three-story building with a total area of about 300 square meters has as many as 12 rooms, and the interior decoration is mostly European style. The living room is a unique arc, separated from the next room by a foldable wooden door that can be pushed and pulled. The ceiling is simple but atmospheric. There is a bathroom in the middle of the wooden stairs. There are bedrooms, study rooms and storage rooms on the second floor. Small round windows in the bedroom are dotted with elegant wallpaper. Next to the bedroom is a study and a small reception room, and connected to the study is a sunny room with good lighting. There is also a bathroom between the second and third floors, and there is a balcony facing north. There are two smaller rooms on the third floor. At that time, the Chen Wangdao family of three, after several thoughts, were still unwilling to move into this "mansion". Later, the problem was solved after the school repeatedly explained and promised to move the grammar, logic and rhetoric research room to its bottom. Because the roof of the small building was covered with green glazed tiles, many students affectionately called it "green house" at that time.

Shortly after Wang Lao moved in 1955, the bottom floor was used by the grammar, logic and rhetoric research room. The ground floor is divided into three parts facing south, a living room in the east and a room in the west. The middle room is used as the office of the research room, and the power distribution room and cloakroom facing north on the ground floor are the storage rooms for materials, books and newspapers in the research room. This is the earliest language research center established in colleges and universities across the country, which is presided over by Wang Lao himself. Famous professors, Wu, Zhou Youguang, Ni Haishu, Pu Zhizhen, Li Zhenlin, Hu Yushu, etc. Both were employed in the research office, which is the predecessor of China Institute of Linguistics of Fudan University today.

The "green room" is often used as an important place for the elderly to receive visiting VIPs outside the school. 1959, Mr. Wu, then president of China Renmin University, came to Fudan to give a report, and Wang Lao treated him in the "green room"; After that, there was a delegation from Soviet universities and the cotyledons of Ye Chucang, a veteran of the Kuomintang.

Looking forward to the prestige of the elderly and the unique European structure of the house, students majoring in architecture from Tongji University can often be seen sketching, and many Fudan people come here to take pictures on holidays.

20 14.4 Guo Fu road No.51Chen Wangdao's former residence was listed as the eighth batch of municipal cultural relics protection units.

In the north of the green house, there are two three-story buildings with red tiles and gray walls, which are the residences of Professor Su and Professor Chen of the Department of Mathematics. 1952 The national departments were greatly adjusted, and they came to Fudan Mathematics Department from Zhejiang University, which made the strength of Mathematics Department suddenly rise. Yang Xiguang, then Party Secretary of Fudan University, decided to build two villas for these two "Bodhisattvas of Mathematics Department", located at No.61and No.65 of Guo Fu Road. 1958 As Professor Chen was transferred back to Hangzhou University as vice president, No.65 was temporarily vacant. After careful consideration, the school leaders decided to invite Professor Tan from the Biology Department to stay. Su Lao lived in Villa 6 1 since he moved in until his death in 2003.

The ninth dormitory of Fudan University's Ninth Hospital is the former residence of former presidents Chen Wangdao and Su. There are two crape myrtle trees, full of flowers and rosy clouds, smiling like two noble souls. These two trees have an extraordinary origin and a history of joys and sorrows. In the promenade, I listened to a story told by Professor Yu Heng, an old academician Wu and a poet and painter. My heart is moving frequently and my thoughts are fluctuating. So, write a few words, snow mud claws, and keep them for young students' amateur entertainment.

According to Professor Yu Heng, "Wang Lao (President Chen Wangdao) 1965 returned from a meeting in Qingdao and praised the beauty of Qingdao's green environment. Lagerstroemia indica can be seen everywhere, and the citizens call it Hundred Days Red. At that time, Wang Lao ordered more than 200 plants at his own expense and gave them to Fudan University. He entrusted Mr. Sun Xuebo, director of the General Affairs Department, to contact and transport them to the school. Wang personally directed and planted them in Jiushe, as well as on both sides of Guo Fu Road and Guonian Road, right in front of the main campus. The next year, it bloomed brilliantly and became a spectacle. Unfortunately, during the Cultural Revolution, it was falsely called "building a monument for yourself". The rebels mobilized government officials and the masses to dig "roots" (the roots of revisionism). In one day, all the trees were cut down except two plants in nine houses. For more than forty years, Ziwei has not missed the flowering period, and it will bloom at that time. But few people know its origin, so it can be described as "anecdote flower".

On April 4th, 20 14, the Shanghai Municipal People's Government approved the publication of Chen Wangdao's former residence as a cultural relic protection unit in Shanghai (Fa [2014] No.29).
