The People's Armed Forces College of Yunnan University for Nationalities is a full-time undergraduate college established with the approval of the Yunnan Provincial Party Committee, the provincial government and the provincial military region in accordance with the spirit of the relevant instructions of the CPC Central Committee, the State Council and the Central Military Commission on strengthening the construction of national defense reserve forces. Founded in July 2000, 1997, formerly known as Yunnan People's Armed School, it was changed to People's Armed College of Yunnan University for Nationalities with the approval of the Yunnan provincial government and the provincial military region in 2000. It is managed by the Yunnan Military Region Command and Yunnan University for Nationalities, and is mainly responsible for cultivating national defense reserve forces and cultivating outstanding talents for the whole province.
After more than ten years of construction and development, the college has continuously improved its teaching quality and management level, and made remarkable achievements in teaching and scientific research. It has successively delivered outstanding talents 1000 people to the armed forces departments, enterprises, institutions and party and government organs at all levels in Yunnan Province. Most of them have become the backbone of the construction of national defense reserve forces. More than 200 graduates have served as ministers of the armed forces of townships/towns, 100 graduates have taken the leading positions in the party and government organs of counties/towns, and 140 graduates have joined the army and public security forces. Graduates are highly praised by employers for their comprehensive quality and good team spirit. In recent years, the employment situation in colleges and universities is good, and the employment rate has remained above 94%. After graduation, some students obtained master's degrees from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Yunnan University and Kunming University of Science and Technology through hard work.
