Xiamen University, or XMU for short, is a comprehensive research-oriented national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and the Central Government of People's Republic of China (PRC). It is a world-class university construction university (Class A), a national key construction university of "2 1 1 Project" and "985 Project", and the first batch of independent examination units with degree authorization. Selected into the national "20 1 1 plan", "Everest Plan", "Strong Foundation Plan", "11plan", excellent engineer education and training plan, excellent legal talents education and training plan, excellent doctoral education and training plan, and national college students' innovative experiment plan. The State has built a high-level university graduate program, a national demonstration base for training innovative talents, a national cultural quality education base for college students, a scholarship receiving institution for overseas students from China government, and the first batch of demonstration universities in China to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education. The National College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Practice Alliance is the leading sponsor of universities, the China-Europe Business School Alliance, the founding member of China Artificial Intelligence Education Association, the member of General Education Alliance and CDIO Engineering Education Alliance, and the key projects of Ministry of Education, National Defense Science and Technology Industry Bureau, Fujian Province and Xiamen City.

Xiamen University was founded on 192 1 by Mr. Chen Jiageng, a patriotic overseas Chinese leader. It is the first university founded by overseas Chinese in China's modern education history, one of the earliest universities in China to recruit graduate students, and the first university in China to build an independent campus overseas. Its early buildings were selected as the national key cultural relics protection units and the first batch of China 20th century architectural heritage, and were praised as "the strongest in the South" and "the most beautiful university in China".
