Introduction to Political Science (Second Edition) is a political science textbook of the School of International Relations of Renmin University of China.

Professor Yang Guangbin's Introduction to Political Science (second edition) was published in June 2004. Originally published as Principles of Political Science, this book was changed to Introduction to Political Science in 2000. Since its publication, it has been reprinted many times, and it is one of the best-selling political science textbooks in China. This book is based on the new development of political science theory and the author's teaching and research experience. The second edition has made major changes in the following aspects:

First, on the basis of the existing framework, make the system more perfect. For example, the "government" is separated from the "state" part, because the government is very different from the state after all, and the theory of government system, government function and government behavior and the theory of officials can not be incorporated into the state theory.

Second, the content keeps pace with the times, which fully shows the cutting-edge research results of political science theory. For example, the social capital theory of political culture, the state theory of new institutional capitalism in the state theory and the classification of state types based on the relationship between state and society. Government function theory, public choice theory and bureaucratic politics theory in government theory, party adaptability research in party theory, and governance in political management.

Third, it is more realistic. Political science theory is abstract, but it must come from reality and be able to explain reality, otherwise it will have no value. Therefore, this revision is based on China's political and comparative political system, so that readers can better use the theory they have learned to understand and explain reality. The second edition tries to combine the practical problems that everyone cares about in the discussion of each part. For example, a new view on the principle of "integration of deliberation and action" in government theory, an interpretation of China's nationalist characteristics, a query on how to construct the people's congress system in the deliberation system, a query on technocrats among politicians, and a query on China's non-governmental organizations in the study of interest groups.

Fourth, discourse expression is more popular and easy to understand. The author realizes that readers are not only professionals of international politics on-the-job courses, but also party, government and military cadres. Moreover, this book is a textbook, not a treatise on a certain problem. So in this revision, some embarrassing quotes and paragraphs were deleted.

Fifth, try to reflect the author's own research results and political observations. Textbooks should not only reflect the cutting-edge research results of the discipline, but also have the author's own observation and evaluation. Neither Marxism nor other schools of political science will deny the importance of institutions to political change. Therefore, the institutional method in political observation is one of the main lines of this revised edition.

After this revision, Introduction to Political Science has basically realized the uniqueness of the system, the cutting-edge content and the exclusive construction of some research results, and realized the unity of the seriousness of the discussion and the popularity of the discourse.
