Xiamen University (XMU for short), located in Xiamen City, Fujian Province, is a comprehensive research-oriented national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC). It is a key university jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the State Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, Fujian Province and Xiamen City, and ranks among the national "double-class" and "21/project".

Selected into the national "20 1 1 Plan", "Everest Plan", "Strong Foundation Plan", "11Plan", excellent legal talents education and training plan, excellent doctors education and training plan and excellent engineers education and training plan.

The new engineering research and practice project and the national college students' cultural quality education base are the first batch of demonstration universities in China to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education. The National College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Practice Alliance and the "2 1 Century Maritime Silk Road" University Alliance are the leading sponsors of universities, the founding members of the China-Europe Business School Alliance and the China Artificial Intelligence Education Association, and the members of the General Education Alliance, CDIO Engineering Education Alliance, Haixi Medical Alliance and China University Free Trade Zone Research Alliance.

Xiamen University was founded by Mr. Chen Jiageng, a patriotic overseas Chinese leader. It is the first university founded by overseas Chinese in the history of modern education in China, and one of the earliest universities in China to recruit graduate students. Xiamen University Malaysian Branch was established. It became the first university in China to build an independent campus overseas. Its early buildings were selected as national key cultural relics protection units and the first batch of 20th century architectural heritages in China, and it was praised as "the strong in the south" and "the most beautiful university in China".

As of April 2023, the school has established Siming Campus, Zhangzhou Campus, Xiang 'an Campus and Malaysia Campus; There are graduate schools, 6 departments, 34 colleges (directly affiliated departments and directly affiliated centers) and 17 research institutes; There are nearly 3,000 full-time teachers and more than 45,000 students in the school, including 2 1.00 undergraduates, 0/.90 postgraduates and 5,000 doctoral students.
