CET-4 and CET-6 are national English tests administered by the Ministry of Education. Its purpose is to objectively and accurately measure the actual English ability of college students and provide evaluation services for college English teaching.
CET-4 and CET-6 are standardized teaching tests. Therefore, the direction of examination reform is to keep the examination scientific, objective and fair, and at the same time make the examination play an active guiding role in college English teaching to the maximum extent, that is, through the reform of CET-4 and CET-6, guide teachers and students to correctly handle the relationship between teaching and examination, use CET-4 and CET-6 more rationally, and make the examination serve the teaching better. The goal of CET-4 and CET-6 reform is to measure China college students' comprehensive English application ability, especially English listening and speaking ability, so as to reflect the requirements of social reform and opening up for China college students' comprehensive English application ability. Because CET-4 and CET-6 are large-scale standardized tests.
The syllabus points out that the purpose of college English teaching is to cultivate students' strong reading ability, certain listening ability (the syllabus for science and engineering also stipulates certain translation ability) and preliminary writing and speaking ability, so that students can use English as a tool to obtain the information they need for their majors and lay a good foundation for further improving their English level. To this end, this exam mainly examines students' language use ability, and also examines students' mastery of grammatical structure and word usage.
This exam is standardized. As the oral test conditions are not yet available, there is only a written test for the time being. The scope of the examination is mainly all the contents of the first to fourth grades specified in the syllabus (except the oral and translation contents). In order to ensure the reliability of the test paper, except the composition is a subjective question, the others are in the form of objective multiple-choice questions. The writing part of the thesis aims to better evaluate students' language use ability, so as to improve the validity of the test paper.
The examination is held around the end of each semester, and is carried out by the design team of Band 4 and Band 6. Held twice a year.
