It is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC) and a university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the National Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense.

3. Dalian Maritime University, referred to as Haida for short, is located in Dalian, Liaoning Province. It is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China, a national "double-class" construction university, and a 21/engineering construction university.

4. Dalian Medical University, located in Dalian, Liaoning Province, is a medical university that focuses on medicine and develops disciplines such as literature, science, management and law. Selected into the national "Basic Capacity Building Project for Universities in the Midwest" and the national "Excellent Doctoral Education and Training Plan" pilot universities.

5. Dalian University for Nationalities, located in Dalian, Liaoning Province. The school was established in 1984, enrolled in 1993 and formally established in 1997. In 2006, it was jointly established by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, the Liaoning Provincial Government and the Dalian Municipal Government.
