Research cooperation of Leuven University
1. Scientific research
In the 2008-2009 academic year, the research funding of the University of Leuven reached 296 million euros. Its development is mainly reflected in three aspects: special research fund (BOF), R&D center of Leuven University and academic research fund (FWO). In addition, several research plans put forward by the federal government in Fremont will continue to increase research funds. These plans include Odysseus, which attracts internationally renowned or potential research experts from abroad, Methodology, which continues to support outstanding research talents, and Hercules, which supports the purchase of precision scientific instruments.
At the same time, the University of Leuven itself has completed a very important coordinated action, that is, the distribution of internal funds. 1996, the research funds of medical college, science college, engineering college and bioengineering college accounted for 80% of the total expenditure, while in 2005 it only accounted for 65%. In the same period, the research funds allocated to the research groups of humanities departments and colleges increased by as much as 100% to 300%. The number of doctoral programs has also increased dramatically in recent years, and it is still increasing (reaching 530 in 2008, including 15 1 foreign doctoral students). In the past few years, after thinking and research, a competency model standard has been drawn up for doctoral students, that is, doctoral students not only gain knowledge and ability from the research process, but also have all kinds of abilities needed in their work and life after leaving school.
It is worth mentioning that the IMEC (Inter-school Microelectronics Center) of the University of Leuven and the Affiliated Hospital of Leuven are the world's top microelectronics research centers, which are famous for the combination of microelectronics basic research and industrial application. The Affiliated Hospital of the University of Leuven School of Medicine is one of the three major hospitals in Europe.
2. International cooperation
As one of the founding universities, the University of Leuven in Belgium has jointly established the LERU- European Research University Alliance with universities in Oxford, Cambridge, Leiden, Edinburgh, Geneva, Heidelberg, Amsterdam and Paris. The alliance consists of several high-level universities in Europe that focus on research. According to the mission statement, the purpose of the alliance is to devote itself to education, knowledge innovation and promoting comprehensive research. The headquarters of the European Union research university is also located at the Catholic University of Leuven in the Netherlands in Belgium.
At the same time, Leuven University joined the Coimbra Group (English: Coimbra Group, abbreviated as CG) together with 38 ancient European universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Leiden, Edinburgh, Heidelberg, Uppsala, Aarhus and Trinity College in Dublin, with the aim of promoting knowledge transfer among member universities by means of exchanges between researchers and students while respecting the cultural, ethnic and academic freedom of each university; As a driving force for the development of European higher education, it promotes its member universities to contribute to European higher education. The executive chairman of Coimbra Group is Professor Guido Langouche from the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Catholic University of Leuven, the Netherlands.
