2. Peking University and Peking University, referred to as "Peking University" for short, were born in 1898, formerly known as Shi Jing University Hall. They were the first national university in modern China, and the earliest schools founded in the name of "University". Their establishment marked the beginning of modern higher education in China.
Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology, which enjoys the reputation of "the cradle of meteorological talents in China", is jointly built by Jiangsu Provincial People's Government, People's Republic of China (PRC), Ministry of Education, China Meteorological Bureau and State Oceanic Administration. As a member of the World Meteorological Organization, it is a national key university featuring atmospheric science and the coordinated development of ocean, information, environment and management.
