In universities, the first-level discipline is a large category of disciplines.

The first-level discipline is a big discipline category, and two disciplines is a small discipline category under it. Up to 202 1 1 14, * * there are 1 12 first-level disciplines.

For example, the traditional China language and literature/Chinese is a first-class subject, while China ancient literature, China modern and contemporary literature, comparative literature, literature and art, language and other following majors are two disciplines.

Two disciplines can't apply for a first-class discipline, but it can apply for a master's and doctor's degree awarding point. Once the first-level discipline is successfully applied, the two disciplines under it can apply to become doctoral degree awarding points.
