The Calligraphy Department of the Academy of Fine Arts of Liaocheng University (formerly the calligraphy major of the Fine Arts Department of Liaocheng Normal University) was founded in 1994 and 1995, and it began to recruit junior college students majoring in calligraphy, and in 2000 it began to recruit undergraduates. Since the establishment of the calligraphy major, there have been teachers such as Yu Maoyang, Zheng Peiliang,, and Lu. There are currently full-time teachers 10 in the calligraphy department, including 2 doctors, 3 doctors under study, 2 professors 1 person, 2 tutors for master students, 3 associate professors and 6 lecturers, among whom Xiang Bin, vice president, is the leader of fine arts. The Calligraphy Department of the Academy of Fine Arts of Liaocheng University is one of the few independent departments in colleges and universities, and its school-running quality and mode have been widely praised by the calligraphy education circle.

The main courses offered by the Department of Calligraphy include copying calligraphy and painting, cursive writing, the history of ancient calligraphy in China, selected readings in ancient calligraphy theory, calligraphy aesthetics, the history of seal cutting in China, identification and collection of calligraphy and painting, ancient Chinese, ancient philology, introduction to art, art aesthetics and a brief history of China fine arts. The school-running of Calligraphy Department is based on technical training and comprehensive improvement of theoretical and cultural literacy, which has formed a major feature of the school-running of Calligraphy Department.
