Hainan University has always attached importance to foreign language teaching and the construction of teaching staff since its establishment. On the basis of the former English Department and the College English Department, the Foreign Languages Institute was established. Hainan University opened a Japanese major course at 1988, enrolling three-year majors. In the initial stage, a group of teachers, teaching materials, reference books, literary works and historical and cultural books were introduced for teaching and scientific research, forming a set of teaching management system. All these have created conditions for setting up Japanese majors.
