Suzhou University was formerly Soochow University founded in 1900. SUDA, located in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Jiangsu Province. It is a national "double-class" university, and the national "2 1 1 Project" and "20 165438 Plan" were selected as the first batch of universities.
Soochow University is the first university in China to establish a modern university discipline system. It is the first university in China to establish a journal, and the first university in China to carry out professional education and postgraduate education in law (Anglo-American law).

Is the first western-style university in China, founded by the American Council of Churches on 1900. Its predecessor is Boxi College in Suzhou, Gongxiang College and Shanghai Chinese and Western College, and it is one of the earliest missionary universities in China.
