1949 On April 23rd, National Central University was renamed as National Nanjing University,1October, 1950, 10. According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education, the word "national" was removed and it was named Nanjing University.

Nanjing University, referred to as Nanda for short, is an institution of higher learning with a long history. Tracing back to imperial academy, Nanjing, which originated in the first year of Wu Yong 'an in the Three Kingdoms, the modern school history began with Sanjiang Normal School held in 1902. After many changes, 1949, "National Central University" was renamed as "National Nanjing University" and the following year was renamed as "Nanjing University".
