East China Jiaotong University is an undergraduate higher education institution. East China Jiaotong University now has two national-level scientific research platforms, namely, the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Rail Transit Infrastructure Operation and Maintenance Safety Technology and the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Fruit Intelligent Photoelectric Detection Technology and Equipment, and more than 40 provincial-level scientific and technological platforms, including collaborative innovation center, postdoctoral research mobile station, postdoctoral research center and academician workstation.

In the past five years, it has undertaken more than 3,000 scientific research projects at all levels, including major and key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, more than 280 national-level projects such as the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars, the National Key R&D Plan and the National Natural Science Foundation High-speed Railway Joint Fund, and more than 680 provincial-level projects.
