West China Medical Center of Sichuan University, formerly known as West China Medical University directly under the former Ministry of Health, is one of the first four comprehensive key medical universities listed in the national "2 1 1 Project".

It originated from the private Huaxi United University founded by five church organizations, including the United States, Britain and Canada, at Huaxi Dam in Chengdu on 19 10. It is the earliest comprehensive medical university in China and one of the pioneers of modern higher medical education in China.

In September 2000, in order to comply with the reform of higher education in China, the former West China University of Medical Sciences merged with the former Sichuan University to form a new Sichuan University. West China Medical University was renamed West China Medical Center of Sichuan University. The center is composed of West China Clinical Medical College, West China Stomatological Medical College, West China College of Pharmacy, West China College of Basic Medicine and Forensic Medicine, and West China College of Public Health, which are collectively called the Fifth Hospital of West China.
