What is a 2-year university in America?
American 2-year college is a community college in the United States and an important part of the American education system, providing two-year primary higher education.

The admission requirements for community colleges are simple, and you can graduate from high school. Students need to take math and English assessments after entering school. Those who fail to meet the standards must attend cram schools before they can take courses that have certain requirements for mathematics and English.

Different from ordinary four-year undergraduate universities, American community colleges mainly offer two kinds of courses: one is a transitional liberal arts course, which is equivalent to the first two years of four-year universities. After graduation, the school will award students a college diploma.

Extended data

The difference between two-year universities and China University.

At present, there are more than 2,300 community colleges in the United States. Tuition in these schools is relatively cheap. Different from the junior college system in China, the main courses of community colleges are basically the same as those in the first two years of four-year universities in the United States, and many graduates of community colleges can directly apply for the third-year entrance of Top20 University, and their credits will be counted. Therefore, many local students in the United States give up directly entering four-year universities and enter community colleges for two years.

Another part of graduates directly take the knowledge and skills they have learned to work.

There are three main differences between two-year universities and domestic institutions:

1, the curriculum is different from the teaching purpose.

In China, most junior college courses focus on students' employment, and there are few research-oriented or comprehensive courses or disciplines. One reason why students go to junior college is that their scores in college entrance examination are not high enough, and another reason is that junior college education focuses on skills and studies some practical courses for employment.

American two-year universities offer not only vocational courses, but also transfer courses. Transfer courses are specially designed for students who want to continue to apply for 4-year universities. Students can take basic courses in the first two years of community colleges (freshmen and sophomores), and the credits they have taken are recognized by four-year universities.

2, domestic junior college to undergraduate course requires strict examination.

Domestic students who have finished junior college must be admitted to an undergraduate school if they want to continue their studies. It is not difficult.

In the United States, when students transfer from two-year community colleges through credits, they don't need to take exams. Students can apply for transfer on the basis of credits obtained from two-year universities. Of course, there are other conditions for American universities to evaluate students besides scores. Students with high GPA scores can also apply to transfer to the top four-year universities in the United States.

3. The diplomas obtained are different.

When a domestic junior college is upgraded to an undergraduate course, the word "junior college" is often indicated on the diploma after graduation. However, after two-year university students finish their freshman year and sophomore year and transfer to a four-year university, there is no difference between the diploma they get when they graduate and the graduates who go directly to a four-year university.

Therefore, it can be said that the two-year university is to give students a buffer period, so that high school students with poor grades have the opportunity to enter famous universities through these two years' efforts. Many students regard a two-year university as a springboard to a prestigious school.
