Tongji University (Tongji University for short) is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and jointly established with Shanghai. It is a national "double first-class", "2 1 1 Project" and "985 Project" construction university, and was selected as "National Demonstration Base for Innovative Talents Training" by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The school is located in Shanghai and is currently led by Fang Shouen, secretary of the Party Committee, and Chen Jie, president. The school motto is "We are in the same boat".

Tongji University is a comprehensive, research-oriented and international university, and it is the first university in the Asia-Pacific region to win the "Global Outstanding Award for Sustainable Campus".

As of May 2022, the school has four main campuses in siping road, Jiading, Huxi and Hubei, covering an area of about 2.56 square kilometers, with a total construction area of 1.84 million square meters.
