Are some fans made of plastic?
Recently, a video was circulated on the Internet. In this video, a female consumer said that fans of a certain brand can actually light it with a lighter, and the more it burns, the louder it becomes. The woman said: these fans burn so fast, are they all made of plastic? 、? Sticky pen can't shake off, and good fans will break when squeezed. How can this be squeezed constantly? .

This? Is the fan made of plastic? The video has been forwarded a lot, many netizens said? Never dare to eat fans again? .

So, what is the truth of the matter?

Will real fans burn?

Normal vermicelli contains a lot of starch and protein, which can be burned in the air. Therefore, vermicelli can't be distinguished from plastic just by whether it can be burned or not. If we only judge from burning, then human hair can also burn. Is human hair also made of plastic?

Of course, from the reality, there are many fan production enterprises all over the country, and the fans produced vary widely. It is not excluded that fans produced by individual enterprises may use some chemical additives in order to look good in color.

Generally speaking, vermicelli burning is normal.

Is there any way to distinguish starch from plastic?

The more complicated but accurate method certainly depends on scientific instruments such as liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry.

This kind of scientific instrument is too expensive for ordinary people.

Tadpole Jun can introduce you to another simple and scientific method: color reaction.

Identification of starch in vermicelli by color reaction

As mentioned earlier, vermicelli contains a lot of starch, which is formed by polymerization of glucose molecules. Say it in simple English. There is sugar in the vermicelli, but there is no sugar in the plastic? .

The point is: there are two kinds of starch: amylose and amylopectin. Amylose is blue when exposed to iodine, while amylopectin is purple when exposed to iodine.

Therefore, in life, we only need to soak the vermicelli in clean water, and then add some iodine (brown in color) for disinfection to the small family medicine box. If the color changes from brown to blue or purple, it means that your vermicelli contains starch, and it is absolutely impossible to make it all of plastic. Because ordinary plastics are mainly polyethylene or polypropylene, these plastics themselves do not contain starch, so it is impossible to have this color reaction.

Identification of protein in vermicelli by color reaction

We know that color reaction is a convenient detection method, but it depends on the naked eye (there may be deviation), so it needs to be verified in many ways.

Normal vermicelli contains not only starch, but also protein. There is no protein in plastics, and we can distinguish it by detecting protein.

We can add a small piece of vermicelli (or plastic) into sodium hydroxide solution (2mL) and shake it evenly to create an alkaline reaction environment, then add 3~4 drops of copper sulfate solution (blue) and observe the phenomenon after shaking it evenly: if it is vermicelli, the solution will turn purple, which is caused by protein in vermicelli; If it is plastic, it will remain blue. As long as you can distinguish between blue and purple, you can distinguish between plastic and vermicelli.

Of course, this method requires some chemical reagents, which is not very convenient in life, but it is a universal method for detecting protein. It is useful for us to distinguish between fans and plastics.

abstract

In daily life, if there is no iodine at home and no chemical reagents such as sodium hydroxide and sulfuric acid, the color reaction mentioned above will not be easy to realize. Then it can be identified by burning observation and smell: vermicelli has no pungent smell after burning, while plastic will produce oil droplets, which have pungent smell after burning. If there is a pungent smell after burning vermicelli, it is recommended not to eat it.

In short, fans are organic. Generally, it is dry, and it can definitely burn. Can the fan be ignited? Is it plastic? There are too many logical loopholes in this statement, which is unbelievable. The reality is more complicated, and you can't judge that fans are plastic just by burning. For fans produced by regular manufacturers, you can buy them with confidence.
