The comprehensive strength of Northeast Petroleum is good. Northeast Petroleum University ranked 2 14 on 20 17, and Changchun University of Technology ranked 269 on 20 17. Northeast Petroleum University (formerly known as Northeast Petroleum Institute and Daqing Petroleum Institute) is located in Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province, and was founded in 1960. It is a university that focuses on engineering, with the coordinated development of engineering, science, management, literature, economics, law, teaching and art. 1978 has been identified as one of the 88 national key universities.

In February 2000, it was transferred to an ordinary institution of higher learning jointly funded by the central and local governments and mainly managed by Heilongjiang Province. It is a university jointly established by Heilongjiang Province, China Petroleum and Natural Gas Group Corporation, China Petrochemical Group Corporation and China Offshore Oil Corporation, and it is a high-level university under key construction in Heilongjiang Province.
