School Major of Yi College of Southwest University for Nationalities
During the period of 10 from the 1990s to the present, specialized courses such as "Yi-Chinese Bilingual Secretarial", "Yi-Chinese Bilingual Administration", "Yi-Chinese Bilingual Economic Management", "Yi-Chinese Bilingual Text Information Processing" and "Yi-English Bilingual Language and Literature" have been set up one after another, initially forming a bilingual professional direction group featuring Yi language and literature. After more than 10 years of professional reform and bilingual teaching practice, a large number of "Yi-Chinese bilingual" talents have been trained, which has made positive contributions to the economic and social development of southwest ethnic areas and produced great social impact. In particular, in 2000, the specialty of "Yi-Chinese Bilingual Character Information Processing" was opened, which marked the integration of Yi ancient books and modern science and technology, was a model of organic combination of traditional culture and modern civilization, and was a historic leap forward for Yi ancient books to be informationized and digitized. The successful opening of the "Yi-English Bilingual" major in 2002 indicates that the traditional "Yi Studies" has been in line with international standards and has taken a solid step to make "Yi Studies" go global and attract worldwide attention. At the same time, accepting students from the United States, France, Sweden, Germany, Poland, Japan, Australia, Singapore, Taiwan Province Province and other countries and regions to learn Yi language and culture has played a good role in strengthening international exchanges and promoting Yi culture.
