Historical evolution:

The establishment of public holidays in Hong Kong originated from the Bank Holidays Order 187 1 formulated by Britain in the 9th century. At that time, the British government wanted to stop banking business through this order, so as to suspend commercial transactions and let the whole society enjoy holidays. Public holidays in Hong Kong only cover the banking industry, not all employees, so they are called bank holidays. Later, it gradually expanded from government, public sector and educational institutions.

Public holidays in Hong Kong began at 1875, when nine days were stipulated. On the other hand, the statutory holiday started from 196 1, when only six days were stipulated, so it was called labor leave. Starting from 1967, Hong Kong maintained a public holiday of 17 days, but the labor holiday was increased to 12 days after 1999. So the inequality between blue-collar workers and white-collar workers has extended from 1875 to 202 1 year, totaling 146 years.
