Datong University, located in Datong, a famous historical and cultural city, is a multidisciplinary university in Shanxi Province. It is the first batch of pilot universities of "Excellent Doctoral Education and Training Plan" in China, and is the main member of the National (College) Alliance, Shanxi Teachers' Education Alliance, Shanxi Higher Medical Education Resource Alliance and Wushu Higher Education Alliance.
The history of Datong University in Shanxi can be traced back to 1950s. Approved by the Ministry of Education in March 2006, it was formed by the merger of the former Yanbei Normal College, Datong Medical College, Datong Vocational and Technical College and Shanxi Industrial Vocational and Technical College.
