Northwestern Polytechnical University is the only national key university in China that features the simultaneous development of aviation, aerospace and navigation engineering education and scientific research. "985 Project" and "2 1 1 Project" are key universities.

Scientific research status

From 2006 to 20 13, the school undertook more than one scientific research project 10000, including major national science and technology projects, weapons and equipment model projects, national defense basic scientific research plans, pre-research plans, 863 plans, 973 plans, natural science funds and various industrial funds. Among the major national science and technology projects, the school participated in the preliminary demonstration and scientific research work of 10 major projects, such as large aircraft, nuclear high base, manned space flight, and wild spring moon exploration project.

On July 4th, 2022, the "Tian Fei I" rocket stamping combined power led by the aerospace combined power innovation team of the Aerospace College of Northwestern Polytechnical University was successfully launched in a base in northwest China. Its successful launch first verified the multi-modal smooth transition and large-scale comprehensive ability of kerosene burning shielded rocket ramjet combined cycle engine rocket/sub-combustion, sub-combustion, scramjet and rocket/scramjet, and broke through the key technologies such as hot throat adjustment, ultra-wide envelope and efficient combustion organization, and the flight test was successful.
