Liu Chang graduated from French Language and Literature Department of Western Languages and Literature in Peking University on 1983. In the same year, he was admitted to the Graduate School of Journalism of Beijing Broadcasting Institute (now China Communication University), and 1984 was sent by the state to study in France. He has obtained a master's degree and a doctor's degree in French journalism and communication. During his 22 years in France, he worked in French radio, television and newspapers, engaged in journalism, served as a senior reporter and editor-in-chief of European Times, and later served as the executive general manager of French media enterprises. He returned to China to teach in 2005, and is currently the vice president of the School of Communication of Communication University of China and the director of the European Media Research Center.
At the award ceremony held on the same day, Ms. Bai Lin, the French ambassador to China, spoke highly of Professor Chang Lu's outstanding achievements in the field of culture and education in the past 20 years and his outstanding contributions to promoting the cooperation between France and China in the field of news and communication.
In his reply, Liu Chang said that the Chevalier of French Culture and Education is a joy and an affirmation to himself, which means international recognition of his efforts as a journalist and teacher for many years. He also said that in the era of economic globalization, new digital technologies are advancing by leaps and bounds. For all people, regardless of color, language and culture, communication means establishing relationships with others, expressing, communicating, negotiating and sharing, as well as mutual understanding, mutual trust and harmonious coexistence. Therefore, communication is a universal humanistic ideal and universal value.
The ceremony was held at the residence of the French ambassador to China. People from the diplomatic, cultural, educational and media circles of China and France and the family of Professor Chang Lu were invited to attend the ceremony.
On June 5th, 2005, the French Ambassador to China, Ms. Bai Lin, awarded the Knight of French Culture and Education to Professor Chang Lu of Communication University of China at the official residence of the Embassy.
