Xihua university, located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, is a provincial key comprehensive university with complete disciplines and multi-disciplinary development. It has been selected into the Basic Capacity Building Project of Central and Western Universities, Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan 2.0, Sichuan 20 1 1 Plan, Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan and Sichuan's "Double First Class" Construction Plan. It is a model university selected by China People's Liberation Army's "Preparatory Class for Children of Frontier Soldiers" and built by the Ministry of Education.

Xihua university's predecessor, Sichuan Agricultural Machinery College, was founded in 1960. It was one of the agricultural machinery undergraduate colleges established in seven regions of China at that time in response to President Mao Zedong's call that "the fundamental way out for agriculture lies in mechanization". 1972 was renamed Chengdu agricultural machinery college, and 1988 was listed as a provincial key university by the Sichuan provincial government. 1990, the State Council Academic Degrees Committee approved that the school has the right to award master's degrees. In 2003, Sichuan University of Technology and chengdu normal university merged to form xihua university. In 2008, Sichuan Economic Management Cadre College merged as a whole.
