Shandong University is the earliest modern higher education university in China. Shandong University Hall, whose main body is 190 1, is the second national university after Shi Jing University Hall and the first university in China to run a school according to its articles of association. The school has experienced several historical development periods, such as Shandong University Hall, National Qingdao University, National Shandong University, Shandong University and the new Shandong University formed by the merger of former Shandong University, Shandong Medical University and Shandong Polytechnic University.
Shandong University has a long history of postgraduate education. The degree and postgraduate education of Shandong University originated from 1924. cheeloo university, the predecessor of Shandong Medical University, has been awarded the doctorate of medicine by the University of Toronto. After the founding of New China, Shandong University trained the first batch of doctoral and master students. Postgraduates majoring in Chinese and history began to enroll students 1953, and biochemistry, histology and embryology, clinical internal medicine, general surgery, otolaryngology and dermatology began to enroll students 1955. 198 1 year, after the promulgation and implementation of the Regulations on Academic Degrees in People's Republic of China (PRC), Shandong University became the first batch of authorized units for doctoral and master's degrees in China, and enrolled doctoral students in nine majors, including China ancient literature, China ancient history, basic mathematics, operational research and cybernetics, high-energy physics, magnetism, physical chemistry, microbiology and obstetrics and gynecology. In June, 2000, the Ministry of Education approved Shandong University to establish a graduate school, and the degree and postgraduate education of the school have made great progress.
Today, Shandong University has formed a school-running pattern of Jinan, Weihai and Qingdao. By the end of September, 20 19, there were nearly 25,000 graduate students (excluding on-the-job education), including more than 5,225 doctoral students. Shandong University has a complete postgraduate training system. At present, there are 44 first-level disciplines authorized by doctoral degrees, 1 for doctoral degrees in two disciplines and 1 for master's degrees, involving philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, medicine, management, art and other disciplines1for master's degrees. At present, there are 9 categories of doctoral degrees authorized by master's degrees. In 20 18, Shandong university independently added two interdisciplinary degree authorization points, namely "data science" and "artificial intelligence", which opened a new chapter in promoting interdisciplinary integration, building a new mechanism for interdisciplinary and interdisciplinary postgraduate training, promoting the growth of high-level compound talents and leading the connotative development of postgraduate education.

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council issued the "Implementation Plan for Accelerating Education Modernization", which launched the strategy of "Education from Big to Strong" in China.
