Lanzhou Jiaotong University is neither a 2 1 1 university nor a 985 university. The school is a university jointly established by China Railway Corporation and Gansu Provincial People's Government. The Education and Training Plan for Outstanding Engineers of the Ministry of Education has been selected into universities, the Model School for Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform of the Ministry of Education, the Education Revitalization Plan for the Midwest of the Ministry of Education has supported universities, and high-level universities and "first-class disciplines" in Gansu Province have been built.

The school's predecessor can be traced back to 1898 and 1909. From 65438 to 0958, the Ministry of Railways decided to establish Lanzhou Railway Institute, the third railway undergraduate college in China.
