Hunan Agricultural University, referred to as Hunan Agricultural University for short, is located in Changsha, Hunan Province, and was founded by the people of China, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Hunan Provincial People's Government. The school is one of the six universities in Hunan Province with postgraduate exemption qualification, the first batch of pilot units for the construction of new rural development research institutes in China, the national 201/kloc-0 collaborative innovation center and the basic capacity-building engineering universities in the central and western regions, and is also a member university of the China-US Agricultural Extension Alliance.

The school has postdoctoral research mobile stations 10, 8 first-class disciplines authorized by doctoral degree, 9 first-class disciplines authorized by master degree 19 and 8 categories authorized by master degree. It is the first unit in China to award master's degrees.
