Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics was formerly known as Jiangxi Commercial School founded in the autumn of 1923, and Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics was established in 1958. During the Cultural Revolution, it was renamed and closed, 1978 resumed, 1980 became a college under the Ministry of Finance, and in 2000 it was renamed Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics.

The school has 9 independent scientific research institutions, 4 provincial collaborative innovation centers, 7 provincial key research bases of humanities and social sciences, and 3 key research bases of philosophy and social sciences in Jiangxi Province.
