The Department of Environmental Science and Engineering of Tsinghua University was founded in 1977, and the specialty of environmental engineering was initiated in Tsinghua University. It was rated as the only key discipline of environmental engineering in China by 1988, and won the second place in 200/kloc-0 and 2006. Environmental discipline is a new comprehensive frontier discipline formed by interdisciplinary infiltration. Its main task is to study the theory, technical principles and measures to protect and improve environmental quality. On 20th11116th, it was officially renamed as Tsinghua University Institute of Environment.
