Shihezi University is a national world-class discipline construction university, a university jointly established by the ministries and provinces, a national 2 1 1 key construction university, an engineering university to enhance the comprehensive strength of universities in the central and western regions, and an engineering university to build the basic capacity of universities in the central and western regions.

The historical origin of Shihezi University can be traced back to the First Corps Health School founded by the First Field Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army in 1949. 1996 With the approval of the Ministry of Education, Shihezi Medical College, Shihezi Agricultural College, Corps Normal College and Corps Economic College under the former Ministry of Agriculture merged to form Shihezi University, which belongs to Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.
