The west gate of Xiamen University is 7.4 meters high and 25 meters long. At that time, it was the largest university gate in China. In order to highlight the unique theme of Jiageng building stone culture in Xiamen University, the facade of the whole building is made of granite and the stone is made of authentic "Quanzhou White". One of the characteristics of this stone is that it does not grow moss.
Because of its huge volume and large main entrance span, granite relief with a thickness of 22 cm is hung on the upper part of the building, and the main structure adopts reinforced concrete shear wall structure as a whole, and the foundation is raft foundation.
After the reliefs are processed in blocks in Hui 'an Stone Carving Factory, they are transported to the site for hoisting, and the weight of each reliefs is basically more than one meal. In order to ensure the installation safety, there are tenons between each relief, and each relief is drilled on three sides and inserted with stainless steel hooks. After hoisting, it is welded with the outer steel mesh of the main structure, and then high-strength cement mortar is poured to ensure the structural strength.
