Henan Polytechnic University (HPU), located in Jiaozuo City, Henan Province, is a characteristic backbone university co-founded by the central and local governments and mainly managed by local governments. It is a university jointly established by the Henan Provincial People's Government and the former state administration of work safety.

Key universities in Henan Province have been selected into the national central and western universities' basic capacity building project, excellent engineer education and training plan, national college students' innovation and entrepreneurship training plan, national new engineering research and practice project, exchange plan for Chinese and foreign high-level college students of the Ministry of Education, and the first batch of "smart campus construction pilot universities" in Henan Province.

The predecessor of the school is Jiaozuo Road and Mine School, which was founded by British Fu Company on 1909. In 2004, it was renamed as Henan Polytechnic University after the historical periods of Fuzhong Mining School, Fuzhong Mining Institute, Fuzhong Mining University, private Jiaozuo Institute of Technology, Northwest Institute of Technology, National Jiaozuo Institute of Technology, Jiaozuo Mining Institute and Jiaozuo Institute of Technology.

As of April 2022, the school has three campuses: South Campus (No.2001Century Road, Jiaozuo City), North Campus (No.0/42 Jiefang Middle Road, Jiaozuo City) and West Campus (No.55 Jianshe West Road, Jiaozuo City), with an area of 4 100 mu and a building area of/KLOC-0.

There are 23 teaching colleges and international education colleges, continuing education colleges (safety technology training centers) and innovation and entrepreneurship colleges; There are two affiliated hospitals; Set up 82 undergraduate majors, covering 9 disciplines including engineering, science, management, economics, law, literature, teaching, art and medicine;

There are 6 post-doctoral research stations, 6 first-class doctoral programs, 27 first-class master programs, and 2 1 master degree authorization categories; There are 32 17 faculty members, nearly 40,000 full-time undergraduates and more than 4,500 graduate students.
