West China Normal University, referred to as "West China Normal University", is located in Nanchong City, Sichuan Province. It is a key university in Sichuan Province, the first normal university in Sichuan Province, the first batch of authorized units for bachelor's and master's degrees in China, and the first batch of universities in Sichuan Province to train free normal students.
The school was founded in 1946, and its birth has a direct historical origin with Northeastern University. In the early days of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Northeastern University moved to Santai County, Sichuan Province. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Northeastern University moved back to Shenyang, and teachers and students from Liuchuan founded the North Sichuan College of Agriculture and Industry at the original site. 1949, Xishan College was absorbed and renamed as North Sichuan University; 1950 merged with North Sichuan College of Literature and moved to Nanchong City.
1952 North Sichuan University merged some majors of East Sichuan Institute of Education, Sichuan University and West China University to form Sichuan Normal University. 1956, the school was divided into two parts, and the part left in Nanchong was renamed Nanchong Teachers College. 1958 was upgraded to undergraduate course and renamed Nanchong Teachers College. 1989 Restored the name of Sichuan Normal University, which was renamed West China Normal University in 2003.
According to the information of official website in May, 2023, the school has two campuses, namely the administrative office and Huafeng, covering an area of 4,000 mu, and has more than 3 million paper books. There are 82 undergraduate majors, including 19 first-class disciplines authorized by master's degree and 13 first-class disciplines authorized by master's degree; There are more than 2,600 faculty members, including more than 35,000 full-time undergraduates, master students and international students.

By February, 2023, the library of West China Normal University had 3.339 million paper books, 4.82 million electronic books, 0.306 million electronic journals/kloc-and 74,000 ancient books of more than 5,600 kinds, covering disciplines of normal and non-normal majors such as science, engineering, literature and history, philosophy, politics, economy and law.
With the approval of the general office of the Sichuan Provincial Government, the library has become a key protection unit of ancient books in Sichuan Province, with branches of Sichuan Provincial Local Records Museum and Sichuan-Chongqing Local Records Museum. It is the third branch of local chronicles in colleges and universities in Sichuan Province and the second branch jointly built by Sichuan and Chongqing, with a collection of more than 2,000 local chronicles and local information documents.
There are more than 5,600 kinds of thread-bound books, more than 75,000 volumes and more than 3,000 kinds of rare books. Among them, there are important documents such as Hongwu Zheng Yun in Ming Dynasty, Han Shichuan in Ming Jiajing, and the geographical map of the western regions in Qing Dynasty, and the work of ancient books survey, ancient books protection, ancient books restoration and movable cultural relics survey has been carried out.
