It's good for China ~ It opens the door to Sino-US diplomacy.
Henry alfred kissinger (English: henry alfred kissinger,1923-May 27th), also translated as Ji Xinji, Secretary of State of Nixon and Ford Administration, winner of the 65438-0973 Nobel Peace Prize. From 1968 to 1977, it played a central role in American foreign affairs.
Kissinger's foreign policy record made him a controversial figure. For example, journalist christopher hitchens accused him of being a "war criminal".
Personal background
Kissinger, whose original name was Heinz Alfred Kissinger, was born in a Jewish family in Felt, Bavaria, Germany. From 65438 to 0938, in order to escape the persecution of Adolf Hitler, his family moved to new york. Kissinger became an American citizen on June 1943.
Although he spent his middle school days in Washington Heights, north of Manhattan, he always kept a unique German accent. Kissinger attended George Washington High School in the evening and worked in a shaving brush factory during the day. 1943, when studying at City University of new york, he was drafted into the army and worked as a German translator in the 970th Counter-Intelligence Corps.
Kissinger received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard College with the highest academic achievement of 1950. Urban legend says that he is the only one who graduated from Harvard with full marks. In fact, he got a B in the fourth grade, and others rarely graduated with full marks. He received his Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Harvard University in 1952 and 1954 respectively. His doctoral thesis entitled "The Restored World: metternich, Cassirer Ray and Peace 18 12-22" is generally regarded as the longest doctoral thesis in Harvard.
As an enlightened Republican eager to have greater influence on American foreign policy, Kissinger became a supporter and adviser of new york Governor nelson rockefeller. He tried to be the Republican presidential candidate in three elections: 1960, 1964 and 1968. 1968, when it was obvious that Richard Nixon would become the party's presidential candidate, Kissinger served as Nixon's adviser.
Political history
Kissinger served as national security assistant (1969—1973) and secretary of state (1973—1974) in the Nixon administration. He also served as Secretary of State in the Ford Administration from 1974 to 1977.
While working for Nixon, Kissinger formulated a policy to ease the Soviet Union. He also negotiated the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks (START I) and the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty (START I). 197 1 July and 1 year1October, Kissinger secretly visited People's Republic of China (PRC) twice to negotiate with Zhou Enlai, paving the way for the groundbreaking summit meeting between China and the United States in 1972 and the normalization of Sino-US relations. Today, Kissinger is often called "an old friend of the people of China" by China leaders. His talks with Zhou Enlai were extremely confidential, and recently declassified documents showed that the talks were mainly concentrated in Taiwan Province province.
Kissinger and Li Deshou of Vietnam were awarded the 1973 Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of their efforts for the Vietnam Peace Agreement. Although both Kissinger and Nixon promised to end the Vietnam War as soon as possible when they came to power in 1968, the conflict with Vietnam escalated and the bombing plan for Laos and Cambodia (planned by Kissinger) was extended. Li Deshou refused to accept the prize on the grounds that peace had not been achieved.
After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), Sino-US relations have been in a state of tension and confrontation for a long time. 1969 after Nixon took office as president of the United States, he advocated improving relations with China in view of the changes in the balance of world political power.
US President Nixon asked Pakistani President Yahya Khan, who is about to visit China, to tell the China administration that the United States is ready to improve relations between the two countries. Later, the photo of Si Nuo standing next to Mao Zedong in Tiananmen Square was published, and the American table tennis team was invited to visit China.
1971On April 27th, China officially sent a note to the United States through Pakistani channels. The note said: "The China administration reiterated its willingness to openly receive the US President in Beijing for direct meetings and discussions." The next day, Nixon asked Kissinger to visit China secretly.
On July 8, during his visit to Pakistan, Kissinger secretly boarded the Boeing 707 of Pakistan International Airlines and flew to Beijing. From July 9th to 1 1, Zhou Enlai held talks with Kissinger. During the talks, the two sides focused on Taiwan Province Province. Zhou Enlai insisted that the United States must recognize Taiwan Province Province as a province of China, and the issue of Taiwan Province Province is an internal affair of China, and no outsiders can interfere. The United States must also set a deadline for the withdrawal of American troops in Taiwan Province and abrogate the US-Chiang Defence Treaty.
Kissinger said: (1) Admit that Taiwan Province Province belongs to China. (2) The United States will no longer be an enemy of China and isolate China. It will support the restoration of China's seat in the United Nations, but it will not support the expulsion of representatives of the Chiang Kai-shek clique. (3) The United States is prepared to withdraw two-thirds of its troops stationed in Taiwan Province within a specified short period after the end of the Indo-zhina War. As for the US-Chiang Joint Defense Treaty, the United States believes that history can solve this problem.
On July 16, the two sides issued a talk announcement. The announcement announced that US President Nixon will visit China at an appropriate time before May 1972. Kissinger's visit to China was a successful visit and opened the door to Sino-US relations.
