Hunan Institute of Science and Technology is located in Xiangtan City, Hunan Province, the hometown of the great Chairman Mao. It is an undergraduate college organized by Hunan Provincial People's Government. The school is a pilot university for postgraduate education in the "Training Project for Talents with Special Needs in Serving the Country" of the Ministry of Education, and the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan" and "New Engineering Research and Practice Project" of the Ministry of Education are the first universities to implement.
It is the construction unit that awarded the master's degree in Hunan Province. The "20 1 1 Plan" was selected as the first batch of colleges and universities, a "double-class" college with high-level application characteristics in Hunan Province, and a batch of undergraduate enrollment units in Hunan Province.

Closely combining the needs of regional economy and the development of electromechanical and textile industries, with the goal of cultivating high-quality applied talents, the school has formed superior professional groups such as electricity, machinery, textiles, chemicals, management and information, covering six disciplines of engineering, management, literature, science, economics and art. As of June, 2002, there were 19 teaching.
There are 8 "double first-class" construction and application disciplines in Hunan Province; There are 8 majors in the implementation of the "Excellence Plan" of the Ministry of Education; There are 8 national and provincial specialties, 6 national and provincial specialty comprehensive reform pilot specialties, 2 national first-class undergraduate specialty construction sites and 22 provincial first-class undergraduate specialty construction sites.
