Dongguk university (English: dongguk university, Korean:) is the abbreviation of Dongda or DGU, which means "the country of the East". It is a prestigious comprehensive research-oriented private university founded by Cao Xizong, a Buddhist Sect in South Korea.

Dongguk university was founded in 1906 with a history of one hundred years. Its predecessor is Jin Ming School, which aims at "saving the country through education". 1945 after the recovery of Korea, the school has achieved all-round rapid development, and now has 13 single-subject university and 1 1 graduate school. Among them, humanities (according to QS20 19 ranking, linguistics ranks 20 1-250 in the world) and arts have always been in the forefront of Korean universities.
