East China University of Science and Technology is selected for the science and engineering major in the college entrance examination, and Shanghai University is selected for the comprehensive major. East China University of Science and Technology, formerly known as East China Institute of Chemical Technology, was formed by merging the chemistry departments of Jiaotong University (Shanghai), Aurora University (Shanghai), Datong University (Shanghai), Soochow University (Suzhou) and Jiangnan University (Wuxi). 1952. It is the first institution of higher learning in New China which is famous for its chemical characteristics.

The school has three campuses, Xuhui, Fengxian and Jinshan, with a total area of 2,535 mu, a total area of 970,000 square meters of various buildings, and a total collection of 3.26 million books in the library. There are analysis and testing centers, jewelry testing centers and other national metrological certification units.
