Henan Polytechnic University ("HPU" for short), located in Jiaozuo City, Henan Province, is a key university in Henan Province, which is jointly established by the central and local governments and mainly managed by local governments. It is also a university jointly established by the People's Government of Henan Province and the former state administration of work safety.
It has been selected into the basic capacity building project of universities in the central and western regions of China, the education and training plan for outstanding engineers, the national innovation and entrepreneurship training plan for college students, the national new engineering research and practice project, the exchange plan for Chinese and foreign high-level college students of the Ministry of Education, and the first batch of "smart campus construction pilot universities" in Henan Province.
The predecessor of the school is Jiaozuo Road and Mine School, which was founded by British Fu Company on 1909. In 2004, it was renamed as Henan Polytechnic University after the historical periods of Fuzhong Mining School, Fuzhong Mining Institute, Fuzhong Mining University, private Jiaozuo Institute of Technology, Northwest Institute of Technology, National Jiaozuo Institute of Technology, Jiaozuo Mining Institute and Jiaozuo Institute of Technology.
