Foreign Affairs College —— The Cradle of China Diplomats

Founded in 1955, China Foreign Affairs University is a small-scale, high-level and distinctive university directly under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the aim of serving China's diplomatic career and cultivating first-class foreign affairs talents. In 20 17, it successfully became one of the first batch of 95 world-class discipline construction universities in China.

China Foreign Affairs University is the first university in China to offer undergraduate courses in diplomacy, and it is also the first batch of institutions awarding master's and doctoral degrees in international relations and diplomacy. The college consists of six departments: Department of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Affairs Management, Department of English, Department of Foreign Languages, School of International Economics, School of International Law and School of International Education. Among them, the Foreign Languages Department offers three majors, Japanese, French and Spanish, with a strong faculty. There are more internship opportunities in foreign countries and international organizations than in other universities, and the employment rate reaches 100%.

In 2020, China Foreign Affairs University ranked fourth in the ranking of language universities in China.

Will the curriculum of French teaching in Foreign Affairs University pay more attention to diplomacy? How is it different from other schools?

I think French teaching in our school is not much different from other universities in general, but it is definitely political. Let's talk about French teaching in our school from several aspects:

1. Curriculum: Like other universities, the courses of freshmen and sophomores mainly focus on the learning and strengthening of French elementary grammar, listening, speaking, reading and writing. In the advanced French learning stage, the school offers intermediate French, news audio-visual, French history, French writing, international politics, public international law, French interpretation and translation and other courses. All the above courses are taught in French, some of which are political and diplomatic courses.

2. Teaching style: French teaching in our school has a steady and meticulous style. From basic pronunciation correction to practice training, from oral answer to oral preview, to essential holiday homework, teachers will meticulously grasp every mistake we make and correct it. They are very dedicated, careful, responsible and concerned about our daily life. This is why our school has been ranked first in the country in French for four years and eight years! Finally, the school has always encouraged us to apply to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to learn more about politics.

3. Study abroad program: The study abroad exchange program in our school mainly focuses on the last semester of junior year and the whole school year of senior year. Exchange institutions include, but are not limited to: Paris School of Politics, Strasbourg School of Politics, Grenoble University, Rennes II University, Aix School of Politics (University of Marseille), Laval University, etc.

Diplomatic Academy = into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs? Can French major (Foreign Languages Department) be qualified to enter the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after graduation?

I think this is a common misunderstanding of our school. Entering the Foreign Affairs College is not the same as entering the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other students majoring in French and foreign languages may not be able to enter the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Let me elaborate on the following points:

1. Selection of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: For the foreign language department of our school, there will be opportunities for selection of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the sophomore year. Choosing opportunities is voluntary. For students who are willing, the teacher will pull the WeChat group to explain the selection and prepare suggestions. Its content forms generally include (Rita did not participate, requiring students to obtain the following contents): self-introduction, translation (oral translation), oral expression, defense, etc.

2. Opportunities to join the Ministry: Our school has more opportunities and places to join the Ministry than other schools. At the same time, we will also have many seniors and sisters who have joined the Ministry to share their experiences, which is very helpful for students who are willing to join the Ministry.

3. After selection: French majors who have passed the selection will go to the Paris School of Political Science to study in the whole academic year of their senior year, and most of the expenses will be borne by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

4. What department to go to after joining the Ministry: According to my senior sister, which department to work in after joining the Ministry is related to the individual's performance and personal ability intention in the initial stage. Therefore, entering the department is not equal to entering the translation department, but may also be the information department and the Africa department.

5. Men and women? Proportion: To be honest, as French majors, many freshmen will participate in the work in Africa. Therefore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs still tends to recruit French boys. Of course, excellent girls also have good opportunities.

Will there be diplomatic activities on campus? What are the colorful activities in France?

1. Activities with diplomatic characteristics: There are several major brand activities of diplomatic practice in our school: diplomatic negotiation contest organized by current affairs research institute, simulated press spokesman contest organized by radio and television in foreign universities, national college students' CPPCC proposal contest organized by CPPCC Association of China Foreign Affairs University, Beijing Model United Nations conference organized by Model United Nations Association of China Foreign Affairs University, and national college students' diplomatic etiquette contest organized by delegations of foreign universities. In addition, our school and community will organize many activities and lectures related to foreign affairs, such as the embassy visit organized by the current affairs research association, the CPPCC visit organized by the simulated CPPCC association, and the ambassador lecture organized by the school.

2. French activities: There are: French recitation \ dubbing \ calligraphy \ speech contest on campus. Outside the school, there are: National French Speech Contest, French Song Contest organized by French League, French Poetry Translation Contest, and Beijing French Dubbing Contest.
