Sichuan University, referred to as Sichuan University for short, is located in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province. It is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and the central government. Sichuan University was formed by the merger of Sichuan University, Chengdu University of Technology and West China University of Medical Sciences. The former Sichuan University started from 1896 Sichuan School of Chinese and Western Medicine, which is the earliest modern institution of higher learning in southwest China.
The former Chengdu University of Science and Technology was the first batch of multidisciplinary engineering colleges established during the adjustment of departments in New China. The predecessor of the former West China University of Medical Sciences was the West China Sheikh University, which was founded by the Western Christian Church in Chengdu on 19 10. It is the earliest Western-style university in southwest China and one of the earliest universities in China to train graduate students.
1994 The former Sichuan University and the former Chengdu University of Technology were merged into Sichuan United University, and 1998 was renamed Sichuan University. In 2000, it merged with the former West China University of Medical Sciences to form a new Sichuan University. It puts forward corresponding indicators for the specialty construction of colleges and universities, and becomes an important basis for students to choose their majors.
