The School of Foreign Languages of Huaqiao University was formally established in September 2000, with two new departments: English Department, Japanese Department and College English Department. Formerly known as the Foreign Languages Department of Huaqiao University, it was founded in 1964, offering Indonesian, English, Japanese and other majors. After Huada resumed operation in the early 1980s, the Foreign Languages Department was re-established. In July 2003, the college successfully applied for a master's degree in English language and literature.
